Doug Conrad I am an explorer and a detective looking for clues to discover more ways to encourage learning that connects with student's lives. In my current position as Director of Academic Technology I am one part technology evangelist and one part digital citizen. I explain my role as helping technology and faculty co-exist in partnership to encourage the dreamer in 21st century students.
I graduated from UCSB with a Liberal Arts degree in Music and Political Science. I worked for a small UMC church as Director of Student Ministries and Director of Santa Barbara Youth Productions, a touring youth musical theatre troupe. In the summer of 2001 I began work at Westmont College managing the new AV department. I have been a leader in classroom design, educational technology initiatives and strategic planning. I oversee a student labor team of up to 15 student workers per semester and am the Producer of Westmont's iTunes U site. In 2013 we finished up a project of uploading the past 42 years of speaker talks to our iTunes U site. I am married to an amazing, supportive and creative woman and have two strong, independent daughters who believe in following their dreams.
This year, I have embarked on a new part of my learning adventure with acceptance into and completion of the Master of Arts in Learning Technologies (MALT) program at Pepperdine University. This 13 month Masters degree program has stretched me to focus on Learning Theory and Design, Cognitive Tools and Action Research.
My Personal Mission Statement: My mission is to see the possibility and potential for good in the world around me and in others. I choose to encourage and empower those I work and live with. I value creativity, communication and collaboration that brings people together in community. I am a problem solver and design thinker. I find happiness in music that moves me, people who inspire me, relationships that change me, faith that blesses me, community that challenges me, and ... dutch apple pie a la mode.
